The Russian occupiers began to storm the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, hiding behind Ukrainian prisoners of war. This was recorded by a Ukrainian drone. The video was published by Radio Liberty.
The frame captured a group of Russian occupiers leading three captured Ukrainian defenders in front of them. They shot back, hiding behind them. After the battle began, the occupiers began to retreat. The unarmed prisoners were sent back and then shot in the direction of one of them. The footage shows a motionless body lying on the ground.
“We were able to verify the video and clearly determine the location where the events took place. However, at the request of the military themselves, we do not indicate the exact location of the events,” noted Radio Liberty.
It is noted that it was possible to establish that the soldiers of the 234th Airborne Assault Regiment as part of the 76th Airborne Assault Division of the Russian Armed Forces are fighting in the section of the front captured in the video. According to the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets, if the video is confirmed, it will be a direct violation of the Geneva Conventions.
According to the Geneva Convention , the use of prisoners of war to take part in hostilities is prohibited. A prisoner of war, after being granted official status, must be kept in a separate location away from the battle line and await exchange.
