Fugitive ex-MP Andriy Portnov filed a lawsuit against the National Agency for Corruption Prevention and the movement "Chesno".

The Deputy Head of the Administration of President Viktor Yanukovych and ex-MP Andriy Portnov filed a lawsuit against the National Agency for Corruption Prevention and the movement "Chesno".

The plaintiff demands to acknowledge as false and defamatory the information that damages his honor, dignity, and business reputation, including accusations of state treason, being called a "Traitor of the country," and an "Accomplice to Russian officials engaged in aggressive warfare against Ukraine and its territorial changes." He also demands the refutation of the information regarding "criminal proceedings under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason)." The plaintiff demands the removal of Andriy Portnov’s profile from the Registry of Traitors, as stated on the "Chesno" movement website.

Portnov demands a quarter of a million hryvnias from "Chesno," but has no financial claims against the NAPC.

Portnov is outside Ukraine. He wants the case to be considered under a simplified procedure without the presence of the parties.

The "Chesno" movement considers this case to be of public importance and insists on a general hearing with the participation of the parties.

Portnov is considered an influential "shadow" curator of Ukrainian courts. Moreover, he was the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration during the rule of fugitive President Viktor Yanukovych.

Due to Portnov’s involvement in corruption crimes and pressure on Ukrainian judges, the US government has imposed sanctions against him.

Portnov’s ownership of real estate worth several million dollars in the capital of the aggressor country is of public interest. Additionally, one of the properties is co-owned with a friend of Lavrov.
