European Union adopted the 14th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation

The countries of the European Union have officially introduced the 14th package of sanctions against Russia, the EU Council announced on Monday.

Its central element was sanctions against Russian liquefied gas. The European Union does not prohibit its import, but European terminals will no longer be used for re-export of LNG to third countries. This applies to both the ship-to-shore road pass and ship-to-shore transshipment.

In addition, the European Union has banned the supply of goods, technologies and services to Russian LNG plants, such as Arctic LNG-2 and Murmansk LNG.

The European Union has also begun the fight against the Russian shadow fleet: there are 27 tankers on the sanctions list.

What else was included in the 14th package of EU sanctions:

→ additional tools to combat circumvention of previous sanctions;
→ a ban on the use of the Russian analogue of SWIFT - the Financial Message Transmission System (SPFS), which the Central Bank of Russia created to circumvent previous sanctions;
→ prohibition of transactions with targeted financial institutions and suppliers of cryptocurrency assets financing the defense of Russia;
→ political parties and media companies in Europe will be prohibited from receiving money from Russia;
→ a ban on charters to and over Europe if they are used by Russian citizens;
→ enhanced export restrictions against six dozen companies and organizations associated with the Russian military-industrial complex. Some of them are located in third countries: China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates;
→ expansion of the export embargo on some machines and all-terrain vehicles;
→ expansion of the export embargo on certain industrial goods: manganese ore and compounds of rare earth metals, plastics, earth-moving equipment, monitors, electrical equipment;
→ strengthening restrictions on helium imports from Russia;
→ prohibition of the export of Ukrainian cultural property, regarding which there are suspicions that they were illegally exported from the country;
→ tools for protecting companies whose assets were subject to expropriation in Russia.

The 14th package included 116 individuals and legal entities.

"Our sanctions have already significantly weakened the Russian economy and prevented Putin from carrying out his plans to destroy Ukraine, while he still continues his illegal aggression against civilians and civilian infrastructure. The 14th package of sanctions demonstrates our unity in supporting Ukraine and seeking to limit Russia’s criminal activities against Ukrainians, including attempts to circumvent EU measures,” said the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.
