On Thursday, 4 July, drones attacked a substation near Zaporizhzhya NPP. Eight workers were injured.

This was reported by the IAEA press service. It is specified that one of the electrical substations near the city of Energodar was attacked by three drones.

As IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi noted, these repeated drone attacks pose a threat to nuclear safety and human lives and must be stopped.

“We saw thick smoke and heard explosions from the switchgear after they were informed that the drones had hit a nearby forest. The substation is located outside the Zaporizhzhya NPP site itself,” said IAEA experts located there.

So far they are not reporting any consequences on site.

Later, IAEA representatives were informed that there were three drone strikes near the town of Energodar. They hit one of the electrical substations, injuring eight workers, one of whom required medical attention. The likely impact also caused oil to leak from at least one of the substation’s two transformers, damaging the top of one of them, as well as a connecting line.
