After Russia’s strike on Poltava, the US promised Ukraine air defence systems

The US will continue to focus on strengthening Ukraine’s air defences and promise additional assistance "in the coming weeks."

White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby told reporters this at an audio briefing on Tuesday, September 3, Voice of America reports.

He expressed his condolences to the Ukrainians after another massive Russian attack on Poltava.

"This is another horrific reminder of the scale of Putin’s cruelty to the people of Ukraine as he seeks to punish Ukrainians for his invasion of that country by attacking critical infrastructure and making it difficult for them to live and make a living," Kirby said.

He stressed that US President Joe Biden "has made clear" that US support for Ukraine "remains unwavering, and we will continue to focus on strengthening its military and air defences against such attacks."

"As you saw, just 10 days ago we announced a new package of military assistance that included HIMARS munitions, counter-drone equipment, Javelin munitions, anti-tank systems, and more to come in the coming weeks. So we plan to continue to support the Ukrainians and try to protect them from these types of attacks," Kirby added.
