In Odesa, the heads of two colleges were detained on suspicion of bribery

Last week, two heads of vocational schools were detained in Odesa on suspicion of bribery.

On 12 September, law enforcement officers handcuffed Volodymyr Chornovil, the deputy head of the Marines College for Educational Work.

According to police data, he demanded and received $500 from a previously expelled cadet, promising to reinstate him in the full-time form of education, so that he could avoid conscription for military service. The suspect guaranteed a positive decision from the head of the department to which the applicant planned to apply, and from HR department employees.

The deputy director was detained directly at the educational institution, immediately after receiving the money.

It should be noted that Volodymyr Chornovil worked in the police for most of his life, and was dismissed from the force in 2014.

He was served a notice of suspicion of receiving an undue advantage. The man faces up to eight years in prison with confiscation.

On 13 September, the director of the Professional College of Communications and Informatisation of the State University of Intellectual Technologies and Communications, Serhiy Petrusenko, was caught taking a bribe.

He was also detained at the educational institution. The investigation revealed that the director demanded and received $1,000 from a citizen for his third-year renewal.

Petrusenko has been the head of the college since 2009. Prior to that, he was the dean of one of the faculties of the Academy of Communications, and before that, he was the director of Odesa’s Alla Bystryna Gymnasium No. 1. He is a Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Honoured Worker of Education of Ukraine.
