Frankivskyi District Court of Lviv has issued a decision regarding the Deputy Director of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine institute, Ihor Andreyko. The official received a bribe of 31.5 thousand UAH for promising to help an entrepreneur rent a premises. The court imposed a fine of 34 thousand UAH on him, with a prohibition on holding certain positions. The seized bribe will be destroyed.

According to the verdict, which was published in the court register in September 2024, Ihor Andreyko, while holding the position of Deputy Director for Scientific and Technical Work at the Heorhiy Karpenko Institute of Physics and Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, received a bribe of 31.5 thousand UAH. For this amount, he promised to lease a premises of 371 m2 to the entrepreneur. After receiving the full amount of the bribe, the official was detained.

Ihor Andreyko admitted his guilt in accepting the bribe. In court, he explained that a man interested in renting a premises for business activities had approached the institute. The man allegedly wanted to cultivate shrimp, but it was explained to him that the premises were not provided for such purposes. The defendant noted that he explained to the man that it takes time to conclude a lease agreement, including conducting an auction and obtaining approval from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The entrepreneur did not want to wait, so the official stated that he “resorted to accepting the bribe,” particularly due to tough life circumstances (illnesses of close relatives and low salary).

The case was considered by Judge Oksana Baran, who reviewed all the materials and arguments of the parties. She found the official guilty of accepting the bribe, imposing a penalty of a 34 thousand UAH fine with a prohibition on holding positions related to performing organizational-management and administrative-economic functions in state and communal bodies, institutions, and organizations for a duration of one year. The bribe is subject to destruction. The verdict can still be appealed.
