The SSU and the National Police prevented the murder of a volunteer family from Cherkasy region
The Security Service and the National Police thwarted an assassination attempt on a volunteer family in the Cherkasy region. It concerns the head of a charitable foundation that aids the Defence Forces and her husband, a demobilized Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier who was severely wounded on the front line.
As a result of a special operation in the region, a criminal group that attempted to blow up the volunteers in their own home using improvised explosive devices was neutralized.
According to case materials, the motive for the attempt was the victims’ refusal to pay an invented debt for repair work in their home.
To commit the crime, the perpetrators prepared four improvised explosive devices, which were equipped with gunpowder, nuts, and fuses.
They planned to throw the explosives into the bedroom where the volunteers were resting.
The Security Service timely exposed the criminal group and detained two of its members red-handed as they prepared to enter the victims’ home.
During searches, homemade explosive devices, components for making explosives, and mobile phones with evidence of the crime were seized from the suspects.
Currently, two organizers of the group have been notified of suspicion under Part 3 Article 15, Part 2 Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (premeditated murder committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons). A suspicion is also planned for their accomplice.
The culprits are in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The special operation was conducted by SSU officers in the Cherkasy region in cooperation with the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
